Elder John Gilliland (1797-1855) and wife Sarah Brashier (1800-1862). John and Sarah were born in South Carolina and later moved to Gallant, Etowah, Alabama. Dawn's branch of the family tree descends from John and Sarah's son James Alexander Gilliland.
James Alexander Gilliland (1820-1898) was the first generation of this line to be Alabama-born. Wife Mahulda Ricks Gilliland (1829-1906) was born at Holly Springs, North Carolina, a daughter of John Ricks and Massey Robbins.
John Gilliland (1864 - 1932) son of James Alexander Gilliland and Mahulda Ricks. John, born in St. Clair County, Alabama married Mary Elizabeth Scott on September 20, 1885 at Marshall Co., Alabama.
This dapper gentleman is Dawn's great-grandfather, E. B. (Ernest Beulah) Gilliland, son of John Gilliland. E. B. (1896 - 1988) was born in Marshall County, Alabama and passed away at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was married to Julia Victoria Teal [Gilliland].
