Kate Maynard's Gilliland Family Album
George Franklin Gilliland (1872-1937), born at Mabees Corner, Jackson County, Ohio, was the son of Washington A. and Huldah Elizabeth (Brown) Gilliland and the grandson of George and Julina (Canter) Gilliland. Known as "Frank" to his family and "Shorty" to friends, George Franklin's line can be traced back to Nathan Gilliland, recorded at the old Scots-Irish Settlement in Augusta County, Virginia by 1745 and his father, Samuel Gilliland. According to some researchers, Samuel was the son of John and Agnes (Craige) Gilliland, of Saltcoats, Ayrshire, who were exiled to the Jersey plantations of America in 1685.
